Introducing Martin.
I thought it was important to add a little of who we are to the site, so giving weight to why we feel the garden and being surrounded by nature is so therapeutic. My name's Martin. Like many of us there have been many times in life that have felt challenging for me. Those trials have always led me into a continuing interest in those things that heal and nurture, including an ongoing interest in tai chi which I've done now for sixteen years. Through all my life the stillness and beauty of nature has been my greatest solace; being there for me when all else failed. Now at the age of 46, with many storms and challenges under my belt I still feel there's much to learn. But I've come far, and hopefully can at least share something of the simple joys the deep, calming wisdom of nature has to offer.
I fell in love with nature from a very young age, and spent many an hour wandering through the ancient woodlands, near my home, filled with mossy logs, wildflowers and gurgling pools. Alas, within the space of a few years I watched powerless as these precious, beautiful places were dug up and replaced with horrible, grey housing estates. It's a familiar story, and at that young age I couldn't understand how something so rich and important could be so callously destroyed. Didn't they SEE it? And so, huge inspiration for me came when I read "How to Make a Wildlife Garden" by Chris Baines. Suddenly I felt able to actually do something that made a differance; a chance to create and share my own little patch of beauty with the world. Neither Suesie or I are expert gardeners, and as you'll see this is only a small garden. Never the less, hopefully our efforts may inspire you all the more to create your own haven, whether yours is a huge plot or just a window box.
Introducing Suesie.
Hello, I'm Suesie, I am an artist/maker and have always found
nature to be such a wonderful inspiration for my creative endeavours. Being bi polar, I feel blessed to have a garden, as it has become a little oasis of calm. There is so much more to see and experience since we began developing the wildlife garden, it brings such pleasure to me.
From the beginning I had plans for a vegetable patch, looking forward to making lovely, healthy food using ingredients grown by me. A good diet is essential in managing my well being and I get a real buzz from making my own soups.
It's exciting watching the garden develop and I find being close to the changing seasons a wonderful metaphor in my storytelling and writings.
I have been stable since May 2011. If you wish, you may like to visit my craft site by clicking here.
